HISTORY
"O, Fair New Mexico," written and composed by Elizabeth Garrett, the blind daughter of renowned former Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett, was unanimously voted and adopted as the official state song by the state legislature on March 14, 1917. "Así Es Nuevo Méjico" ("Such Is New Mexico"), written by contemporary composer Amadeo Lucero, was performed with guitar accompaniment before the members of the legislature in 1971. It received an enthusiastic response and was adopted as the Spanish language state song. In 1989, New Mexico designated "Land of Enchantment—New Mexico," a musical composition by Martin Murphy, Chick Raines, and Don Cook, as the official state ballad. "New Mexico—Mi Lindo Nuevo Mexico," written and composed by Pablo Mares, a distinguished music educator, conductor, and composer, was adopted as the official bilingual song in 1995. In 2007, "Under the New Mexico Skies," by Syd Masters, a vintage Western cowboy swing artist, was designated as the official state cowboy song, making New Mexico the first state to adopt a cowboy song.  -World Trade Press
LYRICS
"O, Fair New Mexico"
Under a sky of azure, where balmy breezes blow,
Kissed by the golden sunshine, is Nuevo México.
Home of the Montezuma, with fiery hearts aglow,
State of the deeds historic, is Nuevo México.
Chorus:
O, fair New Mexico, we love, we love you so
Our hearts with pride o'erflow, no matter where we go,
O, fair New Mexico, we love, we love you so,
The grandest state to know, New México.
Rugged and high sierras, with deep canyons below;
Dotted with fertile valleys, is Nuevo México.
Fields full of sweet alfalfa, richest perfumes bestow,
State of apple blossoms, is Nuevo México.
Chorus
Days that are full of heart-dreams, nights when the moon hangs low;
Beaming its benediction, o'er Nuevo México.
Land with its bright mañana, coming through weal and woe;
State of our esperanza, is Nuevo México.
Chorus
"Así Es Nuevo Méjico"/"Such Is New Mexico"
Spanish Lyrics                                                      English Translation
Y riegan tus campos
A song that I carry deep in my soul
I sing it to my state, my native land.
Of golden flowers my enchanted land
Of beautiful women, which have no equal.

Thus is New Mexico
Thus is this land of sun
Of mountains and valleys of fertile soil
Thus is New Mexico

The black, the hispanic, the white, the Indian
All are your children, all are equal.
Your cities and towns, my enchanted land
Of beautiful women, which have no equal.

Thus is New Mexico
Thus is this land of sun
Of mountains and valleys of fertile soil
Thus is New Mexico

The River of the North, which is the Rio Grande,
Its running waters flow to the sea
And irrigate your fields
My enchanted land of beautiful women
Which have no equal.

Thus is New Mexico
Thus is this land of sun
Of mountains and valleys of fertile soil
Thus is New Mexico

Your fields are dressed with May flowers
Of beautiful colors
That God gave them
Your birds sing, my enchanted land,
Their trills of love
For the heavenly being.

Thus is New Mexico
Thus is this land of sun
Of mountains and valleys of fertile soil
Thus is New Mexico

My enchanted land bathed with history
So pretty, so lovely, without comparison.
I surrender homage to you, I surrender tenderness
Valiant soldier, he surrenders to you his love.
