"Así Es Nuevo Méjico" ("Such Is New Mexico"), written by contemporary composer Amadeo Lucero, was performed with guitar accompaniment before the members of the legislature in 1971. It received an enthusiastic response and was adopted as the Spanish language state song. In 1989, New Mexico designated "Land of Enchantment—New Mexico," a musical composition by Martin Murphy, Chick Raines, and Don Cook, as the official state ballad. "New Mexico—Mi Lindo Nuevo Mexico," written and composed by Pablo Mares, a distinguished music educator, conductor, and composer, was adopted as the official bilingual song in 1995.
